Sunflower Placemat/Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern

Therefore, I first fell in love with sunflowers when I created my SUNFLOWER MUG RUG PATTERN using gorgeous fall colors so check it out now! Of course I used the same fall colors in this Sunflower Placemat/Wall Hanging. In addition you can always try other fall colors too ie. burgundy, burnt orange and gold.
Introduction:
This pattern is an intermediate level crochet pattern. However, if you are new to crochet world check out BASIC CROCHET KNOWLEDGE PAGE for all things related to basic crochet knowledge. So you can be up to speed and are ready to start this project.
For this Sunflower Placemat/Wall Hanging you will need size 4 med. weight yarn, size I/9-5.50 mm hook, yarn needle, scissors. In addition if completing the wall hanging you will also need these supplies, #8 crochet thread, 0/3.25 mm steel hook, 18” embroidery hoop/metal, 3 wooden beads.
Also this pattern is in US terms and includes written instructions with image tutorial for ease of use.
You also need crochet knowledge of working in the round, basic crochet stitches, picot stitch, surface crochet, basic sewing, basic fringe work. you will need 1 skein of each of colors below (however you will not use a whole skein of any color for one placemat)

0/3.25 mm steel hook for wall hanging option

Fasten off, weave in ends and block if desired (I did not block my sunflower). Placemat is now complete, continue on for wall hanging.

Lay sunflower on flat surface place hoop around sunflower see image A-6

Cut 5 yds of #8 crochet thread. Tie crochet thread in double knot onto hoop see image A-7

Thread yarn needle with crochet thread
Run needle thru leaf picot tip from back side to front side, then around hoop 2 times catching next petal tip on 2nd time around, rep around hoop
Make sure you are keeping crochet thread taunt so petal tips touch hoop see imagesA-8 & A-9, continue around hoop catching each petal tip to end

Double knot around hoop at end (do not cut tails of double knots off, tuck them under taunt thread wrap, this side of hoop will be the bottom where fringe hangs so tails will be hidden)
Cut 36” long pieces of any yarn or fiber to match color combo for fringe pieces and attach to bottom 1/3 of hoop
Hanger
ch 60, without twisting ch, sl st to first ch made, fasten off and weave in ends
Lay hanger under hoop, Take top of loop over hoop and insert in bottom loop, Pull top loop to tighten see images A-10, A-11 & A-12
